Amy Winehouse brought soul, motown and jazz into the 21st century. On the singer's birthday, we remember some of the best songs that she brought into our lives.

Rehab (2006)------------

This was the one that made Amy rocket from unknown artist status to international music star status.

Rehab gives an incredibly personal insight into the singer's ongoing battle with addiction. It won three Grammys, including Song of the Year.

'I don't ever want to drink again, I just, oh, I just need a friend'

Love Is A Losing Game (2007)----------------------------

This song was released as the fifth and final single from her 2006 album, Back to Black.

Its meaningful lyrics, combined with Amy's husky alto vocals, make this one of Amy's strongest tracks from her career.

'Though I battle blind, love is a fate resigned'

Back To Black (2007)--------------------

The sense of heartbreak in this song is not easily hidden. Back to Black was inspired by Amy's relationship with her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who had left her for an ex-girlfriend.

It was released as the third single from her album of the same name.

'You go back to her and I go back to black'

Our Day Will Come (2002)------------------------

This was in fact not an Amy-original! It was a No.1 hit for Ruby & The Romantics in 1963, then recorded for Amy's album Frank (2002).

Our Day Will Come was most memorably used on a posthumous compilation of Amy's songs in 2011.

The message of this song is so poignant, and almost feels like the singer's final words to herself – or even a farewell message to us all.

'Our day will come, and we'll have everything'

Valerie (2006)--------------

Because when it comes to Amy, we can't possibly end on a sad note.

Valerie was originally written by The Zutons in 2006, but Amy and Mark Ronson found huge success with it later that year.

Valerie will always be an amazing reminder of Amy's energy, and the emotion that she poured into every song.

'Since I've come on home, well my body's been a mess. And I've missed your ginger hair, and the way you like to dress'
