13 cats with amazing jobs

Who knew you cats could have so many jobs?

While most cats are 'just' pets others are 'employed' around the world to do important jobs.

1. Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office

Only three cats have officially been given this title, Humphrey was the first and most famous mouser of 10 Downing Street.

He started life as a stray and after the death of the previous 'mouser' was set to work in 1988, sadly Humphrey died in 2006.

2. Senior Pest Controller

Felix the cat is now a senior pest controller at Huddersfield station. Felix, who was named before they found out she was female, joined the station at the tender age of nine weeks back in 2011. Now after five years of hard work she has been given a promotion and even has her own uniform.

3. Station Master

Like Huddersfield Kishi train station in Japan had a cat employee. Tama was the station master at Kishi train station until 2015 when she sadly died from heart failure at the age of 16.

Tama grew up as a stray and was adopted by the informal station manager when the station was going through financial problems. Tama became a hit and passenger numbers increased. When she died thousands of fans turned up for her Shinto-style funeral where she was given the posthumous title 'Honorable Eternal Stationmaster'.

She has been succeeded by her deputy Nitama.

4. Crossing patrol

Soon after Sable's owners moved to Richland, Washington in 2011 the black cat would appear for the school crossing patrol. His internal clock was spot on with him appearing five minutes before the kids went on the way to and from Enterprise Middle School.

5. Security guard

Millie was appointed Bandai’s warehouse security cat in 2012. She was in charge of protecting some of the latest games and toys ahead of the Christmas rush.

Two cats have run as mayoral candidates, Tuxedo Stan in Canada and Morris in Mexico.

12. Hotel Hostess

Matilda is the current feline hostess of New York City’s Algonquin Hotel. The hotel has a long tradition of having a cat in residence, either a male cat called Hamlet, or a female called Matilda.

13. Police cat

While police dogs are fairly common, police cats are less so. Lemon is an official member of the Kyoto Police Department in Japan. Lemon wears his uniform when on duty and travels with some officers to help victims feels more at ease.
