To celebrate the birthday of arguably of the best film writer, producer and director, here's a look back to 10 film moments we wouldn't have had without him.

1) Hook (1992) This 1992 film is a re-make of the classic story with Dustin Hoffman as Hook against the late comic Robin Williams as Peter Pan, who must revisit Neverland to save his son.

This film brought us the wonderful moment when Robin's character embraces being Pan.

2) Jurassic Park (1993) Dinosaurs breaking out of their cage was scary enough, but the key moment from this movie has got to be when the water on the dashboard ripples due to the dinosaur getting ever closer...

3) Saving Private Ryan (1998) This classic war film follows Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks) taking his men behind enemy lines to find Private James Ryan.

It brought us the gut-wrenching opening beach scene which made us cry. A lot.

4) Schindler’s List (1993)

Schindler's List follows businessman** **Oskar Schindler who gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce in Poland during World War II.

It's mostly in black and white - with a few impotrant scenes in colour. Our hearts broke when Schindler sees a little girl in a red coat trying to escape and hide, then later sees her dead body in a wheelbarrow.

5) Back To The Future (1985) Speilberg helped bring us this sci-fi feelgood film, following Marty McFly going back in time when an experiment goes wrong.

We all wanted to punch the air when Marty McFly takes to the stage with ‘Johnny B Goode’ after his mum and dad kiss – thus keeping him alive.

6) E.T (1982) This story followed a boy Elliot befriending a gentle alien and gave us the classic line "ET phone home."

7) Poltergeist (1982) Be careful – this one might give you nightmares. The scariest moment from this 1982 horror, where the family home is haunted by ghosts, has to be when Robbie sees the clown at the end of his bed.

Then he looks and it’s not there. Then it attacks…

8) Jaws (1975) Already you can probably hear the theme music in your head. This fishy thriller brought us another famous line, when the shark suddenly appears and actor Roy Schneider backs away, casually telling the others “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”.

9) Catch Me If You Can (2002)

This highly acclaimed film follows the life of con-artist Frank Abagnale. Despite his high spirits, there's one scene where get insight into the lonely man's life.

He’s outside in the cold, with the police catching up to him, while he looks through the window at the perfect family setting he's wished for, with ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ playing in the background.

10) Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Classed as one of the most iconic adventure films, Raiders of the Lost Ark follows Dr/ Indiana Jones looking for an artificat - the Ark of Covenant.

It's not without it's challenges, including traps.
