10 misconceptions about being an only child

If only they knew.

Growing up as an only child is actually pretty great! However, there are some big misconceptions that we have to face on a daily basis...

1. People think we were really spoilt

Pfftt... the kids with siblings were definitely more spoilt, they used to get extra treats so they weren't jealous of their other sibling!

2. People think that we couldn't share

I mean, we could... we just didn't always want to!

3. People always assume that we got double the presents

4. People think we were really lonely

Pur-lease! All that alone time meant we got to do exactly what we wanted!

5. People ALWAYS assume we were our mummies and daddies' pets

Erm, we were the favourite by default not choice!

6. Everyone thought we were spared the horror of hand-me-downs

No chance! We just got them from our parents or cousins instead!

We totally pulled it off, though.

7. People thought life was easier for us

No way, there was so much more pressure! Our parents placed all their faith in one child, so we couldn't just leave it up to our sibling to win Sports' Day, get the Geography prize and make friends!

It was a tough time for us.

8. ...speaking of which, EVERYONE thought our only friends were of the imaginary kind

We rebelled like everyone else, just didn't have anyone to blame it on...!

10. People thought we were socially awkward

The WORST thing to hear when you tell someone you're an only child is 'Hmm, yeah that makes sense'.
