Teenager dies after getting into difficulty in water at Wigan lake
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the boy had died at the scene
The body of a teenage boy has been pulled from a popular swimming spot in Wigan.
Staff at the Scotman's Flash lake in the area had noticed the boy getting into difficulty in the lake on Saturday afternoon (September 7th).
Emergency services were called to the scene in order to rescue the teenager, who was eventually pulled from the water by a member of the public.
However, despite the best efforts of the paramedics on hand, the boy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the boy's family have been informed of his death and are being looked after.
"At around 3pm yesterday (Saturday 7 September), officers were called over concerns for a 15-year-old male in the water at Scotman's Flash, Wigan," the statement said.
"He was recovered from the water by members of the public but sadly, he passed away despite the best efforts of emergency services
"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and his family are being supported by specialist officers at this time."
