Two teenagers charged after chemical incident at Surbiton station
The two suspects will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday
Two teenagers have been charged in connection with the use of a "corrosive" substance outside Surbiton railway station.
The boys - aged 14 and 16 - were arrested shortly after the attack on Friday afternoon (November 29th).
The boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons due to their age, were charged on Sunday (December 1st) with possession of a corrosive substance in a public place.
As a result, the boys will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Monday (December 2nd).
British Transport Police officers had been at the Surbiton railway station in south west London at around 4:20pm when they found two teenagers acting suspiciously, the force said.
Whilst the officers were speaking with the teenagers, they were exposed to the substance, which investigators said was "believed to be alkaline".
Two officers at the station were taken to hospital following the incident but have since been discharged.
An additional seven officers from the police - including two from the Metropolitan Police - were treated at the scene by paramedics.
