Sir Kier Starmer’s promising to re-build the economy as the Labour Party Conference gets underway in Liverpool on Sunday.

The Prime Minister and his top-team are heading to the Exhibition Centre Liverpool for their annual gathering.

It comes as the boss of the Unite Union criticised the Party for scrapping the Winter Fuel Payment for millions of pensioners.

Sharon Graham, the General Secretary of the Union and one of Labour’s biggest backers, has called for the decision to be reversed.

“It’s a cruel policy. I’d like him to say that he’s made a mistake and for him to reverse this policy,” said Ms Graham.

“I’d also like him to say that the party is not going to take this country down austerity, part two.”

The Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP will take to the stage on Sunday as the Party Conference gets underway.

The MP for Ashton-under-Lyne is expected to announce how Labour, who hold a majority in the House of Commons for the first time since 2010, will fix unsafe cladding on high-rise buildings.

The Leader of the House of Commons, Lucy Powell MP, has been outlining why this Conference is so important for the cabinet, appointed by Sir Kier Starmer after July’s election victory.

“This conference is about projecting our vision for the country, and to project what we’re all about.

“Anything that stops us from doing that, is something that we don’t really want to talk about.”

The Labour Party Conference runs until Wednesday 25th September.
