Search for missing teenager Jay Slater called off by Spanish police
It comes after authorities announced "massive" expansion of the search
Police in Spain have confirmed that the search for missing British teenager Jay Slater has been called off.
Slater has been missing since June 17th, with the Guardia Civil combing the Masca area where he was last seen.
The teenager, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, had been going to the NRG music festival on the island when he decided to walk home after missing the last bus.
On Saturday (June 29th), it was revealed that Spain's Guardia Civil was initiating a "massive" expansion of the investigation.
However, the force have now said that the investigation into the teenager's disappearance has ended, but enquiries are still being carried out.
Slater had been on holiday with friends as he attended a rave on the evening of June 16th, before calling a friend to say he would be walking the 11-hour journey to their accommodation.
Friends of the teenager said that Jay had said he was lost and in need of water, with his phone running on just 1% battery.
The last known sighting of the teenager was at 8am on June 17th, when a resident from the village of Masca spoke to him.
She had said that she had met him and told him there was a bus heading back to his accommodation at Los Cristianos at 10a.m.
However, she added that Jay went on to walk instead, driving past him later in the day, describing him as "walking fast".
