An ice hockey match between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers was abandoned following a "major medical emergency".

Last night's (OCT 29th) Challenge Cup match at Sheffield arena was stopped in the 35th minute so Adam Johnson could get emergency treatment from paramedics.

It's thought he suffered a cut to his neck from a skate after crashing.

Witnesses say players formed a ring around him before protective screens were put up and they were taken off the ice.

The Panthers tweeted shortly after the incident that the 8,000 fans in attendance had "been asked to leave the building due to a major medical emergency".

Officials at the Motorpoint Arena, the home of the Panthers, issued a statement on X, formerly Twitter, saying their thoughts were with Adam and his loved ones.

They said: "Our heartfelt thoughts go out to Adam Johnson, his loved ones, all the Panthers players, staff, fans and the whole ice hockey community, following his horrific injury this evening,"
