Grandmother died from "unsurvivable" injuries after XL Bully attack in Jaywick, and inquest has heard

An inquest has heard a Grandmother, who was mauled to death by XL Bullies, died of "unsurvivable" injuries.

68-year-old Esther Martin was found with injuries at a house in Hillman Avenue in Jaywick on the afternoon of February 3rd.

It's believed she was trying to break up a fight between puppies before she was attack, whilst visiting her grandson.

The inquest in Chelmsford's heard Ms Martin, who was staying at the address but lived in Woodford Green, London, was found with two large dogs, who were destroyed at the scene.

They were later confirmed by Essex Police to be XL Bullies.

Coroner's officer Andy Flack said "She was unresponsive," and "Her injuries were unsurvivable."

He said Ms Martin was pronounced dead at 4.47pm, with her medical cause of death recorded as "dog bite wounds to the upper right limb".

Lincoln Brookes, senior coroner for Essex, suspended the inquest proceedings pending the outcome of the police investigation.

He said: "May I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Ms Martin on what on any view is an extremely tragic death of a loved one."

Police have released a 39-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences, on bail until March 5.
