West Midlands Police arrest two men following fatal Birmingham collision
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning
West Midlands Police have arrested two men following a fatal collision in Birmingham city centre on Sunday morning (June 2nd).
Officers first received reports of an incident involving three cars on the A38(M) just after midnight on Sunday morning.
When officers reached the scene on the Aston Expressway, they found a number of people requiring immediate medical attention.
One of the victims was given emergency treatment, but despite the best efforts from those working in the emergency services, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two people involved in the collision fled the scene of the crime before officers had arrived, but were eventually traced to area not far from the scene.
The force arrested the two men, aged 27 and 24 respectively, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
After being arrested by police, the two men currently remain in custody, as investigations into the collision are opened.
The force said it is examining CCTV footage, as well as dash cam footage from around the time of the crash, but are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen how the collision came about.
Speaking on the enquiries, Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit of West Midlands Police, paid tribute to the victim who sadly lost his life.
"Sadly we are dealing with a very serious collision and working with partner agencies to establish what caused this collision to happen," he said. "Our thoughts are with the family of the man that has sadly passed away.
"The road has now been re-opened and I would like to thank everyone for their patience with the closures as we gathered evidence and made the road safe," Hughes added.
He also appealed for information and witnesses to come forward as soon as possible as even the smallest detail may be able to help officers.
