Mel B joined Nicole Appleton on Magic Radio, remembering the early days in their pop music careers. The pair, who were part of two of the biggest girl groups around in the 90s, the Spice Girls and All Saints, were often pitted against each other, but as they revealed it was all made up by the press.

Nicole explained: "Let's go back to the beginning to when we first started hanging out. The one thing that kind of bothered me was when everyone called us rivals. I never hated you guys ever!"

Mel agreed saying: "They loved to do that in the press!" As Nicole added: "I know, and I was like, I actually love those girls, you know."

Mel then agreed: "We love you lot, are you kidding me?", going on to explain: "It sounded better to have as rivals than actually friends."

The last time Mel and Nicole caught up was when the Spice Girls were on their 2019 tour, and as Nicole reminisced: "I mean we were in tears watching and it was probably the most electrifying show I had ever seen. We went backstage and I found your dressing room, and I came in and I don't know what I was more impressed with the show or your dressing room. It was literally a dressing room of dreams.

"It was all Union Jack and a bit of leopard print," Mel explained, going on to reveal, that Geri had a bed in her dressing room, while Emma's was all beautiful, so she stole a bit of everybody's ideas.

The singer also opened up about the domestic violence she'd been experiencing for 10 years. Back in 2019, it was the year that she moved back to the UK, to her mum's tiny bungalow in Leeds, with her three kids.

She went to on to explain: "I had left my abusive relationship and I was abused on many different levels and financially too. So I was like he's taken quite a lot of my money. I just need to put my head down and work and figure all this out."

When Mel's book Brutally Honest was first released back in 2018 it became a Sunday Times Bestseller, now, six years later it has been re-republished with three more chapters, and as Mel explained: "For 10 years I was married and then I got divorced in 2017/2018, and that's when I brought my first book out, and now I've redone well, not redone. I've republished my book with three extra chapters. Just to update people if they wanted to know."

She continued: "When I first started to talk about abuse, nobody really wanted to talk about it. Nobody really wanted to publish it, nobody really want to talk about it, but then it flew off the shelves, because people do want to talk about it, and it is an epidemic, and it's not going anywhere basically, so we have to do something about it.

Mel B's book Brutally Honest is now available to buy from all good bookshops.
