John Torode: Gregg Wallace and I aren't actually friends in real life

The Masterchefs are not friendly off-screen.

John Torode has admitted that he's never been friends with TV co-host Gregg Wallace.

Despite presenting Masterchef together for around 12 years, John has revealed that although they share a passion for food, the pair have had vicious arguments and have never been to each's houses.

"It's funny, we've never been friends," he told the Mirror.

"We've not been to each other's houses... If we go away to somewhere like South Africa, we do things separately... If we do go out for a drink, I'll invariably be at one end of a big old table and he'll be at the other."

The chef openly discussed his fraught relationship with Gregg Wallace, despite being best man at his co-host's wedding to Anne-Marie Sterpini last year.

Contrastingly, Wallace told ITV's Lorraine on Thursday: "I film with John six or seven months of the year, so we are very close to each other physically, and emotionally we are very close to each other. What's great about having a partnership is that if one of you is a bit off, a bit down, the other one naturally steps up, so I rely on John a lot."

Apparently the pair once had a 'massive fight' over a contestant after a few drinks: "We've had a couple of standoffs over the years," John said. "I've just had to walk away from him".

The current series of the revamped Masterchef is currently at quarter final-level. Here's hoping the pair can keep their rivalry under wraps for the big final!
