Foodie Friday #15 – New York Special
Nick and the team headed to Katz' Delicatessen, a sandwich shop in New York, for a very special American Foodie Friday.
While Magic are in New York for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, Nick decided to take a trip to Katz' Delicatessen in New York to film a very special Foodie Friday!
He chatted to Jake, who is now of the fifth generation at the Deli. His family have owned the institution since 1888.
The Deli is so popular that they can expect up to 4,000 customers in a day!
Hit the play button below to see how they make salt beef sandwiches at Katz' Delicatessen.
Jake and Nick in Katz' Delicatessen
Jake tells Nick that at Katz', they cure and make all their own foods and smoke everything themselves. And due to popular demand, they get through around 15,000lb of pastrami and 8,000lb of corn beef every week!
They also produce the popular American hot dog, and Jake tells Nick that there is only one way to eat a classic New York hot dog:
"With a little bit of mustard, and a little bit of sourcrout."
Our reaction was the same as Nick's – no onions or ketchup? Are you mad, Jake?!
After all this food talk, Nick's stomach was starting to rumble. So he asked for a 'combination' of the Katz' classics: pastrami and corn beef on rye with mustard and a Reuben, all topped with sourcrout, mustard and juicy gherkins.
Delicious.
