Miranda Hart says Miss Hannigan role in 'Annie' has boosted her confidence
"Exhilarating, thrilling, exciting and a dream come true."
Miranda Hart has said that taking on the role of Miss Hannigan in the West End production of Annie has given her a new-found confidence.
The Miranda actress and writer got a standing ovation for her opening night performance of Miss Hannigan in Annie, and told London's Evening Standard:
"Miss Hannigan has given me the chance to be shoulders back, more proud of my height and bolder and brasher and get in touch with that side of my personality that the British are not very good at doing and given me the freedom to dance."
The 6ft 1in comedian has long been a musical theatre fan, and was thrilled at the opportunity to take to the stage herself.
"When I did the bow at the end and we all sang 'Tomorrow', I thought, 'I've been watching these musicals in the West End for years and years and loving watching a curtain call and people singing their final number,'" she told the Standard.
Miranda was joined by a big support team on the press night, including Graham Norton, David Walliams, Sally Phillips and Bill Nighy.
On the musical itself, Miranda said: "This is frivolous but it's also really important and the arts are important even in a light musical, like Annie, which has a really hopeful story and is emotional as well as really vaudevillian and funny and silly."
