Magic at the Musicals returned to the Royal Albert Hall in 2024 to celebrate the best in musical theatre with a sparkling evening of performances from leading cast members and the most iconic shows from the West End and beyond.

2024's event took place on Sunday 22nd September and was hosted by west-end star and Magic at the Musicals radio presenter Ruthie Henshall alongside comedian and presenter Jason Manford.

The full line up included: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera, Here You Come Again the new Dolly Parton musical, An Officer and a Gentleman The Musical, Burlesque, Calamity Jane, Dear Evan Hansen, Disney’s ALADDIN, Disney’s THE LION KING, Hadestown, Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Mean Girls, Operation Mincemeat, SIX the musical, Tina - The Tina Turner Musical and West End Superstars Kerry Ellis and John Owen-Jones.

All the shows were supported by the amazing London Musical Theatre Orchestra, led by the incredible Freddie Tapner, and returning to join us throughout the show is the Mountview Choir.

An Officer and a Gentleman

An Officer and a Gentleman The Musical is based on the award-winning 80s movie which starred Richard Gere. Burlesque

Discover a club like no other… a place beneath the city lights where sequins sparkle, seduction shimmers, and a life can change in the flick of a feather boa.
When Ali heads to New York City in search of her mother, she finds herself drawn into a dazzling underground world of music and dance that will change her life forever. A scintillating journey of self-discovery that absolutely sizzles with songs by Christina Aguilera, Sia and Diane Warren, alongside additional songs by Todrick Hall and Jess Folley.

Calamity Jane

Meet the fearless, gun slingin' Calamity Jane – biggest mouth in Dakota territory and always up for a fight. She'll charm you hog-eyed though, especially when trying to win the heart of the dashing Lieutenant Gilmartin, or shooting insults at the notorious Wild Bill Hickok. But when the men of Deadwood fall hard for Chicago stage star Adelaid Adams, Calamity struggles to keep her jealousy holstered. Her heart's a thumpin'... but who for?

Dear Evan Hansen

Meet Evan: an anxious high school kid who wants nothing more than to fit in. The thing is, on his way to fitting in, he didn't tell the whole truth. Packed with some of the biggest musical theatre songs of the last decade, DEAR EVAN HANSEN has a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Oscar-winning composers for The Greatest Showman), book by Steven Levenson and more awards than can be listed here. Well ok, we'll mention a few: its Tony® Award for BEST MUSICAL, Olivier Award for BEST NEW MUSICAL, Grammy® Award for BEST MUSICAL THEATER SCORE…no big deal but the list goes on!

Hadestown

Winner of 8 Tony® Awards including 'Best Musical' and a Grammy® Award for 'Best Musical Theatre Album', Hadestown returns to London five years after its sold-out run at the National Theatre in 2018.
Hadestown takes you on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back, intertwining two mythic love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone. Hairspray

After breaking box office records and delighting audiences in the West End, on Broadway and on the big screen since 1988, the timeless story of Hairspray centres around heroine Tracy Turnblad, who has big hair, a big heart, and big dreams to dance her way onto national TV, and into the heart of teen idol Link Larkin. When Tracy becomes a local star, she is able to use her newfound fame to fight for liberation, tolerance, and interracial unity in Baltimore. But can she win equality – and Link's heart – without denting her 'do?
Hairspray is a musical based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Divine and Ricki Lake by cult filmmaker John Waters. With music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman Marc Shaiman and book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, the stage production of Hairspray originally opened to rave reviews on Broadway in 2002 and subsequently won eight Tony Awards. The production opened in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 and won four Olivier Awards including Best New Musical. Proving to be an international success, Hairspray has also played in South Africa, Japan, South Korea, China and Dubai. Following the musical's phenomenal success on stage, a film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden.

Here You Come Again

For the first time ever, all of Dolly Parton's biggest hits can be experienced together in a rollicking and joyous new musical comedy.
Packed with the iconic songs Jolene, 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again and more, this lively and touching new musical tells the story of a diehard fan whose fantasy version of international icon Dolly Parton gets him through trying times. With her wit, humour and charm, Dolly teaches him a whole lot about life, love and how to pull yourself up by your bootstraps…even if your bootstraps don't have rhinestones! This is one musical that is sure to make you smile.
After several successful productions across the United States, Here You Come Again was originally written by two-time Emmy award-winning comedy and songwriter Bruce Vilanch with Gabriel Barre (who also directs) and Tricia Paoluccio (who also plays Dolly), and has now been adapted for the UK by acclaimed British playwright Jonathan Harvey (Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and Coronation Street).

London Musical Theatre Orchestra

The award-winning London Musical Theatre Orchestra is the UK's specialist orchestra dedicated to musical theatre.
Since LMTO's launch in June 2016, the orchestra has performed live to over 100,000 people at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane, recorded several live and studio albums and had performances broadcast to millions on BBC Radio 2. The orchestra has accompanied many of the leading artists working in musical theatre, including Audra McDonald, Michael Ball, Luke Evans, Marisha Wallace, Jason Manford, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Samantha Barks, Layton Williams and Ramin Karimloo.

MAMMA MIA!

Since premiering in London in 1999, the irresistible feel good musical MAMMA MIA! has captured the hearts of millions around the globe. The sunny, funny tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island idyll, all unfolding to the magic of ABBA's timeless pop masterpieces, has now been seen live on stage by over 65 million people across the world and turned into two record-breaking movies – MAMMA MIA! The Movie and MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again.
To date, MAMMA MIA! has been seen in 50 productions in 16 different languages grossing more than $4 billion at the box office. In 2011, it became the first Western musical ever to be staged in Mandarin in the People's Republic of China. The London production of MAMMA MIA! has been seen by over 10 million people, played over 9,300 performances and has broken box office records in all three of its London homes. It will be only the third musical in West End history to reach 25 years.

The Phantom of The Opera

Mean Girls

Broadway's hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team including writer Tina Fey ("30 Rock"), composer Jeff Richmond ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon), opens at the Savoy Theatre this summer.

Operation Mincemeat

Singin' in the Rain meets Strangers on a Train, Noel Coward meets Noel Fielding, Operation Mincemeat is the fast-paced, hilarious and unbelievable true story of the twisted secret mission that won us World War II. The question is, how did a well-dressed corpse wrong-foot Hitler?
Playing at the Fortune Theatre Operation Mincemeat won the 2024 'Best New Musical' and 'Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical' Olivier Awards, following receiving six nominations.

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical which is based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner and was produced in association with Tina Turner herself, has been running at the Aldwych Theatre in the West End for over 5 years and is a global success with 8 productions having opened worldwide since 2018. Developed in London together with Tina Turner, the critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in April 2018 and has subsequently broken all Box Office records at the Aldwych Theatre.
