Bridget Jones The Musical is coming to the West End in the next couple of years and we can't wait
We can expect to see it in the next couple of years!
Helen Fielding, the original writer of Bridget Jones's Diary, has confirmed that the musical version of her novel is still very much in the works.
After the arrival of Bridget Jones's Baby, the third in the Bridget movie trilogy, author Helen Fielding revealed that we can expect to see Bridget Jones The Musical in the West End in the next couple of years.
In an interview on This Morning, Fielding said, "I'm really excited about a musical. It depends on whether the theatre is available. It's very spontaneous."
A musical version of the popular novel has been on the cards for a few years now, and was originally set to star Legally Blonde West End star Sheridan Smith, with music by Lily Allen.
However, since Helen Fielding has been in talks to revamp the future musical, it is unsure whether Lily's score will be used. Furthermore, there is no suggestion that any of the songs from the three movies will feature in the musical – not even this classic! 👇
The project has been put on hold many times in the last few years, but Fielding told This Morning: "I've written it – well I haven't finished...but yes, I hope it's happening!" She confirmed that show had had a lot of work put into it in workshops, commenting that "with musicals, everyone comes together, and then they flutter off again!".
Cheers to that!
