Mel Giedroyc says if the new Bake Off is better, she's coming for Noel Fielding!
The comedian has taken over hosting duties with Sandi Toksvig.
When we heard the news that Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins were leaving the Great British Bake Off, we must admit that a large tear fell onto our tray of Earl Grey tea and Victoria Sandwich cake.
But being Mel, she has very graciously praised her successor Noel Fielding, ahead of his hosting debut on the show later this year.
Before the news of Noel's takeover was announced, Mel texted him to give him her blessing.
"We were in quite a lot of touch, and I passed him the seeded baton, the seeded baguette," Mel joked last night at Magic at the Musicals.
"It will be different and better, and if it's better, I'll be livid!" she reflected. "If it is better, I'll be coming for you Fielding!"
It was almost a national tragedy when the news came out that The Great British Bake Off would lose three of its core ingredients (pun intended): Mel, Sue and Mary Berry.
The announcement that the trio were stepping away came down on us like a ton of rock(cake)s, and Mel admits it was a bit of an unusual way to end her time on the show.
Her Magic at the Musicals co-host Ruthie Henshall clearly felt the same way as us, saying: "You ARE the Bake Off, and I cannot imagine it without you."
"It's a sad thing, and it's a bit of a weird thing, but we had seven incredible years on the show," Mel responded, adding, "that's about 150 years in showbiz!"
"I feel like Sue and I were given an amazing gift, and we loved it. I hope we passed it on in a good way."
