Much to the excitement of Coronation Street fans the official Instagram account has uploaded a photo of comedian Vic Reeves as his new character 'Colin'.

The photo shows the comedian wearing a grey checked jacket and waistcoat with a bright red shirt and black tie, standing in front of The Kabin and an open top car.

Accompanied by the caption 'Welcome to Coronation Street Jim Moir!' there was a bit of confusion initially until some explained in the comments that Jim Moir is the comedian's real name.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Vic would be appearing in the popular soap two years after he had reportedly approached producers about the opportunity.

Speaking at the time the comedian said, "I’ve been a lifelong fan of Corrie. In fact, I think I saw the very first one. I try not to miss any episodes. I’m really looking forward to acting in Corrie. It’s a real thrill to be part of a British Institution."

It is believed that Vic will appear in an initial run of 20 episodes starting in the coming months.

Vic is best known for his double act with Bob Mortimer, starting in the early 90s the pair starred in popular shows such as Shooting Stars and Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased).
