It's been confirmed
Last updated 7th Aug 2020
In what seems like the strangest of years, it's now been confirmed that the USA will now get its own version of the Eurovision Song Contest, called American Song Contest.
With representatives from all 50 states taking part in the competition, Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, said, "It’s time for America to experience this spectacle, through its sister competition, the American Song Contest."
He went on to say, "Love of music is universal and celebration of music in different genres and styles can transcend boundaries and unite people. We are excited to have found the right partners to offer another series that our fans across the globe can fall in love with and to share this unique competition with the American people."
The Eurovision Song Contest, which has now taken place for six decades, is watched by around 200 million viewers and it's hoped that the American competition will attract similar audiences.
According to Variety, the new competition will start in the 2021 holiday season (late November to December), and will see artists (solo, duo or a group) from each state perform an original song.
