Dame Joanna Lumley and her husband/famed conductor Stephen Barlow have started their very own podcast!
Joanna and The Maestro, is a new podcast from the couple and covers a range of topics related to Joanna’s husbands’ profession.
Joanna the “music amateur” will be using this podcast to ask Stephen all the questions she has about Stephen’s career and the music form itself. “What is a maestro?” “Why do certain pieces of music make us feel a certain way?” “Who was better: Mozart or Beethoven?”
As well as this, Joanna and Stephen will be looking into different stories of different composers and symphonies along with personal anecdotes about their own musical journeys. Stephen also shares his personal experiences with of why he fell in love with the organ as well as his love for Led Zeppelin, whereas Joanna talks about her love of rock and roll and the piano. As well as asking each other different musical questions, listeners will also be treated to live music performed by Stephen himself.
Stephen Barlow is the former artistic director of the Buxton festival as well as a renowned conductor, recently conducting Die Walküre, Porgy and Bess, Romeo et Juliette and La Gioconda at Grange Park Opera. He made his conducting debut in 1979 at Glyndebourne festival opera giving him years of conducting, opera experience to share with his wife Joanna Lumley.
Dame Joanna Lumley is not only an actress she's also a presenter, author and campaigner. She's known for her iconic roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, Her Majesty's Secret Service and Absolutely Fabulous which she won two BAFTA awards for. As well as her more recent appearances in Finding Alice and Motherland.
