Music legend Dolly Parton has been given a dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Dolly, who turned 75 earlier this year, received the shot on Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
In a video posted on social media, the country music star sang a reimagined version of her hit ‘Jolene’ with the lyrics, “Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you, please don't hesitate!”
The video was accompanied by a post saying ‘Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine.’
Dolly was injected with the vaccine developed by Moderna which she also helped fund.
The singer donated $1 million to the research and development effort of the Moderna vaccine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Some of Dolly’s donation funded early trials of the Moderna vaccine, which was found to offer almost 95% protection against Covid-19.
In the video, the Grammy-award winner said, “I’m finally going to get my vaccine, I’m so excited! I’ve been waiting a while and I’m old enough to get it and I’m smart enough to get it.
I’m very happy that I’m going to get my Moderna shot today and I wanted to tell everybody that you should get out there and do it too.”
