Barry Manilow met fans at HMV in London for first signing in over a decade
Oh Barry!
Barry Manilow met fans in his first signing for over a decade.
Barry Manilow is one of the world’s all-time bestselling recording artists. He has sold an astonishing 85 million albums worldwide, has had 12 No.1 hits, and is ranked as the No.1 Adult Contemporary Artist of all time, according to Billboard and R&R magazines.
Barry’s songs have long had a special place in our hearts; and let's face it, without ‘Mandy’ and ‘Copacabana’, karaoke nights just wouldn’t be the same.
So, we’re here to bring you the good news: Barry is back! Last night, the singer met fans and signed copies of his new album This Is My Town: Songs of New York, at the HMV store on Oxford Street in London.
And of course, being a multiple Grammy Award-nominated star, Barry couldn’t just rock up on the tube. Instead, he arrived in a vintage, yellow New York taxi to represent the title of his new album. We can’t help thinking it would have been more fun to see him step off a double-decker London-style big red bus, though!
Barry stepped out of his taxi to join fans in HMV for an intimate signing event; his only UK signing event for the new album and his first in over a decade!
His fans were apparently thrilled to see him, and all bought a copy of his new album at the signing.
According to Mr Manilow, his new album is “like a melting pot – just like New York is. We take you from Brooklyn to Broadway to Birdland. We even wind up in Coney Island. Take a look at the titles and it really does look like you’re going from place to place to place.”
“There are different styles. There’s pop, there’s a little rock and roll, there’s jazz, there’s a little R&B, and Broadway. That’s what I think of when I think of my home town and of New York.”
