Three months after ABBA's Benny Andersson revealed he hoped to release new music from ABBA in the autumn of 2020, his bandmate Björn Ulvaeus confirmed in May 2020 that the band would be releasing new music before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the global pandemic put paid to their plans, and the new music - along with the ABBAtar hologram tour - have been pushed back to 2021, but Bjorn is adamant that the new music will be released next year.

Speaking to journalist Geoff Lloyd, Bjorn apparently confirmed that five new songs will be released very soon, as Geoff spoke out on his podcast, "I got to spend an hour with Bjorn Ulveaus from ABBA via Zoom. They've recorded five new songs. They should have been out at the end of last year.

"They're going to these holograms out on tour. Because of technical difficulties and the pandemic, it's delayed things. But he promised me that the new ABBA music will be out in 2021."

This comes after Bjorn was interviewed by CNBC and asked about the new music originally announced back in 2018. He said, "I think sometime this year. Yes, I think so."

And, despite telling the interviewer that the band would not reunite on stage, Björn did say that it was "so great" being back in the studio together.

"It took half a minute and somehow we were back in time like we had been there yesterday as well. It was so strange. That feeling between us was extraordinary," Björn explained.

It's understood that one of the songs is called, 'I Still Have Faith in You', and the other 'Don’t Shut Me Down'.

Back in 2018, ABBA announced they would be working on new music, including one for a Christmas special. However, to date, the songs have never been released and fans have been left wondering when they'll be able to get their hands on them.

It was then just a few months ago that Benny spoke to a fan account called ABBA Talk. They shared a video of Benny talking in Swedish about their new music saying, "They’re coming. They’re coming this year. I’m guessing after the summer.

"But I can only guess, because I’m not really sure. But I would think so. One shouldn’t promise anything but if I were to decide myself, it would be September."

The last song released by ABBA was 'Thank You for the Music' in 1983, however their music has continued to be very popular over the years with films such as Mamma Mia, and it's sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
