Phil Collins postpones Royal Albert Hall shows after bad fall
He's hoping for a speedy recovery and return to the stage.
Phil Collins cancelled two of his Royal Albert Hall shows just hours before he was due to be on stage, after suffering from a bad fall in his hotel room.
"He rose in the middle of night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair. He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe cash on his head close to his eye and his recovering well. He will be kept under observation for 24 hours," the statement reads on Facebook.
"Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, and cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return."
As expected, the news reached some disappointed fans. "Sorry to hear that ... but we are sat on a train on our way to see him. #gutted .... no idea what we are going to do now," said Chris Cliff. "So sad. My father and I came from California just to see his concert tomorrow. We won't be able to make it back in November. Wishing Phil a speedy recovery and good overall health," said US-based Ashley Smith.
The 66-year-old singer has a condition called 'drop foot', which makes it difficult for him to walk, and causes him to have sudden losses of balance.
Since his return to live music, Phil has been remarkably honest about the effects of his age, including the after effects of his recent back operation.
Watch his interview with our own Richard Allison at St James' Church in Piccadilly below, where the singer opens up about his injuries and how they have affected his ability to perform.
Despite his grumbling, the ex-Genesis singer and drummer is still amazingly energetic onstage, and embraces his age with a new-found acceptance and spirit.
Get well soon, Phil!
