If there's one thing that this time of year makes us want to do, it's curl up with a hot drink, blanket and a good movie! (Not forgetting the popcorn.)

And if you're wondering what to watch next time you sit down, Empire magazine have just released their top 20 films of 2017.

Tipping the top spot at number one is the critically acclaimed, Get Out. One to watch from behind your hands, the horror – a debut for film maker Jordan Peele – was highlighted as one of the most original to reach cinemas in years.

If that isn't quite what you're looking for, how about an evening in with La La Land, starring Gosling with Academy-award winner Emma Stone? The multi Oscar-winning musical danced its way to third position!

Also making the prestigious list is Moonlight. The film, which won Best Motion Picture at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, charts the life of American playwright and actor, Tarell Alvin McCraney.

If home–grown talent is what you're after, God's Own Country, is set in Yorkshire and stars a predominately British born cast – you'll recognise Jennifer Gemma Jones, who plays the film's matriarch, from Sense and Sensibility and Bridget Jones's Diary. The UK based production tells the story of a sheep–farmer whose everyday is uprooted by the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker.

Or, if you'd prefer to be transported to sunnier skies, the film that took the number 10 spot promises just that; Call Me by Your Name is a romantic drama set in Italy in 1983. (We won't give any spoilers, but this one is sure to tug at your heartstrings.)

You can discover all Top 20 Films of the Year in this month's bumper issue of Empire Magazine. For now, here's those that made the top 10:
