Audra McDonald missed out on Beauty And The Beast Broadway musical
She was chuffed to eventually land a part in Disney's live-action remake!
Audra McDonald is now a six-time Tony Award winner, but when she was just starting out, she failed to catch the eye of Disney composer Alan Menken when auditioning for a part in the Broadway adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
She auditioned for a minor role in the theatre adaptation of the movie musical back in 1993, but missed out on the role to another actress.
Over two decades later, Audra can thank her lucky stars that she stuck at the musical theatre gig, as she landed the character of the Wardrobe, Madame Garderobe, in the live-action remake!
Audra sings Madame Garderobe's Aria, as well as the Finale version of the title track.
"I auditioned to be in the ensemble (for the Broadway musical) and I wasn't cast and I was devastated, and then, you know, things worked out!," the actress grinned on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America.
"Then the night before we started filming in London, I said to Alan Menken at a dinner, I said, 'Hey, I auditioned for you back in 1993 for the Broadway (show)...' He was like, 'I know, I know, I know! Is this OK instead?' I said, 'Yeah, this is pretty good!'"
The live-action movie stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast, and a whole host of Hollywood stars.
"Usually when you're doing animated films... you do a lot of the work in the voice studio, by yourself, but because you see us, at times, in our human forms (for the live-action remake), we all got to be onset together," Audra revealed.
"You've got people like Sir Ian McKellen, Emma Thompson and Emma Watson, and Luke Evans, and Josh Gad... everybody was just hanging out, it was incredible, and we all got really close."
Audra also took part in our ULTIMATE Disney Quiz, along with Stanley Tucci, Luke Evans and 'The Beast' Dan Stevens. And it's safe to say she blew her cast members out of the water!
