The BAFTAs, one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the film industry, took place at the weekend. This time the event was hosted by actress Joanna Lumley and saw the British film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri pick up five awards, including Best Film and Outstanding British Film.
However, following the event many were talking about Jennifer Lawrence who apparently threw shade at Joanna Lumley, after coming out to present the first award of the evening. As host Joanna introduced the X-Men: Apocalypse actress as "the hottest actress on the planet" and "the ravishing Jennifer Lawrence", Jennifer came out and responded with "Hi, that was a bit much, but thank you, Joanna."

Now, Jennifer has put the record straight, saying it was an "inside joke" and she wasn't being rude. She told Ronan Keating on the Magic Radio Breakfast Show that the pair were backstage chatting about how Joanna should introduce the Hollywood actress. Jennifer was joking, "Joanna and I are both about to go out and she was like about to present me, and I was just like 'adjective after adjective, just tall, beautiful, just say that I'm this and that!".
So when Joanna described Jennifer as all these amazing things, Jennifer responded with "that was a bit much!"
Jennifer compared the situation to the 2004 film Mean Girls saying, “Everybody thought that I was being rude. But to be fair, I couldn’t have just walked out after she was like, “biggest movie star in the world!!” And I’d just walked out and gone “thank you Joanna”. It would have been like, “so you agree? You think you’re really pretty”.
