Eight year old boy dies after firearms incident in the Warcop area

A man in his 60s was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter

An eight year old boy has died after a firearms incident yesterday in Warcop area.

Cumbria Police said that emergency services were called to a farm at 2:50pm on Saturday (September 28th).

Responders attended the farm, with both officers from Cumbria Police and the North West Ambulance Service offering emergency medical treatment.

The eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance having suffered serious, he sadly died overnight.

A man in his 60s was initially arrested on suspicion of assault and grievous bodily harm.

His charge since been changed and he is now arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

The man remains in police custody while investigations are launched into the incident.
