A man who died when a tree fell into his car in Birmingham during Storm Darragh at the weekend has been named locally.

Kher Hussain Shahin was on Silver Birch Road in Erdington at around 3pm on Saturday when strong winds uprooted the tree. He died at the scene.

Councillor Majid Mahmood, who is in charge of transport at Birmingham City Council, has paid tribute to him online, saying his "thoughts and prayers" are with his family.

Sgt Benjamin Parsons, of the Roads Policing Unit at West Midlands Police, said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time, and his next of kin have been informed.

"A report will be passed onto the coroner. Anyone who saw what happened or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage, is asked to please get in touch."
