M62 closed after pedestrian left with serious injuries after being hit by lorry

Police officers and National Highways are investigating the scene

The M62 has been closed westbound after a lorry collided with a pedestrian, leaving them serious injured.

A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which have been described as "life-threatening" by West Yorkshire Police.

Officers were alerted to the incident which took place at 4am on Saturday morning (September 21st), after the man was hit by a white DAF heavy goods vehicle.

The crash took place between Junctions 29 for the M1 and Junction 30 at Oulton, with the motorway closed within 20 minutes of the accident.

Representatives from West Yorkshire Police and National Highways have been at the scene, investigating the crash.

Traffic that has been caught in the closure since the incident has been released gradually over the course of the morning.

Motorists are now being diverted onto the A642 and A639 to alleviate traffic flows in the area.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for information, with anyone who may have dashcam footage at the time of the crash to get in touch as soon as possible.
