With the arts and theatre being one of the areas suffering most due to the pandemic, there's not really been much good news... until now. Outdoor theatre performances are due to start up imminently with an announcement expected "mid-July".

Culture secretary Oliver Dowden announced his plans when speaking to a radio station earlier this week, doubling down on his hopes that pantomimes will also be back in time for Christmas 2020.

"I am desperate for theatres to return as quickly as possible but it has to be done in a safe way... that's why we've said already performers can rehearse and can have performances behind closed doors. I hope that shortly they will be able to have outside performances."

"Mid-July we will be able to make that announcement in respect of outdoor performances and we're working with institutions to understand how they are doing that. The primary criteria for theatre will be outdoor and socially distanced " added the MP.

Whether your favourite venue is the Shakespeare's Rose theatre in York, Sutton Hoo in Suffolk or the stunning Minack in Cornwall, you might finally get to see some action.
