Waitress star Lucie Jones shared a picture on Twitter wearing a mask as she stood in front of a giant poster of herself in character as Jenna whilst saying goodbye to the Adelphi Theatre.

The musical theatre star captioned the photo "Cleared out my dressing room today at The Adelphi. Cried a whole bunch. Please wear a mask. Buy tickets for live streams and drive in events. Broken hearted and unbelievably grateful ".

The post got thousands of likes from fans who are desperately sad to see Waitress leaving the West End before it got the send off it deserves.

The musical, penned by Sara Bareilles, landed in London following a smash hit run on Broadway on 7th March 2019 and was due to close on 7th July 2020 but due to the UK's lockdown measures was denied the final part of its run.

Even more heartbreakingly, Lucie Jones who played Jenna last year took a short break to allow the show's creator Bareilles to star in the role before a planned return on 23rd March.

This reprisal of the role never came to be after Boris Johnson imposed lockdown measures and Waitress became one of many of the West End's casualties.

When the news broke Johnson shared a video of her first performance in the role and said: "My heart is broken. This video is from my first night as Jenna. I’ll never forget any of this. Thank you to the incredible cast crew and fan family of Waitress London: you hold an incredibly special place in my heart."
