Brenda Edwards returns as Mama Morton in the UK and Ireland tour of Chicago

As the UK and Ireland tour of Chicago continues to wow audiences across the country, producers have now announced that Brenda Edwards will return to the production as Mamma Morton.

Brenda rose to fame when she made it to the semi-finals of the X factor. She went on to make her West End debut as Mamma Morton in the London production of Chicago.

Brenda will join the cast when Chicago the Musical arrives at the Sunderland Empire on 2nd June, she joins the previously announced Lee Mead who will be playing Billy Flynn.

Meet the new cast of the Chicago tour:

Lee Mead as Billy Flynn

Lee Mead rose to fame after winning Any Dream Will Do, where he won the titular role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Other theatre credits include Legally Blonde, Wicked and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Brenda Edwards as Mama Morton

Brenda rose to fame competing in the X Factor in 2005. She made her West End debut playing Mama Morton in Chicago and has since appeared in the UK tour of Hairspray, Carousel at the London Coliseum and both the West End and touring productions of We Will Rock You.

Brenda is also a panelist on ITV's Loose Women.

Faye Brookes as Roxie Hart

After her success on Dancing on Ice, Coronation Street's Faye Brookes is swapping her skates for her jazz shoes as she takes on the role of Roxie Hart. She's no stranger to musical theatre having starred in the national tours of Shrek the Musical and Legally Blonde as well as appearing as Liesl in The Sound of Music at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.

Djalenga Scott as Velma Kelly

Djalenga's West End credits include Annie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Chicago. She has also appeared in West Side Story on a national tour, Grease at the Leicester Curve, and the European tours of The Rocky Horror Show and Fame.

The cast also includes Jamie Baughan as ‘Amos Hart’ and B.E. Wong as ‘Mary Sunshine’ and is completed by Ishmail Aaron, Michelle Andrews, Gabby Antrobus, Delycia Belgrave, Joel Benjamin, Tanisha-Mae Brown, Daniel Clift, Callum Fitzgerald, Emily Goodenough, Billie Hardy, Aaron Jenkins, Liam Marcellino, Theo Reece, Hollie Jane Stephens and Harrison Wilde.

What is Chicago the musical about?

Set in the roaring 20s Chicago is a tale of Roxy Hart, who murders her bit-on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. In order to avoid a conviction she hires the slick legal skills of Billy Flynn who transforms the public's perception of the case into the wildest headlines!

The show is packed with fantastic music by John Kander and Fred Ebb as well as Bob Fosse's iconic choreography. With incredible songs such as 'Razzle Dazzle', 'Cell Block Tango', and 'All That Jazz', this show is not to be missed!
