Organisations across Horncastle are meeting today to offer support following the devastating affects of flooding in the area.

Arranged by local MP Victoria Atkins It's hoped that this will then build back the community.

She tells us more about the impact Storm Babet has had on the town...

"Well, my heart goes out to everybody affected by that terrible storm, and of course the flooding that resulted from it.

"In Louth, the flood alleviation scheme kicked in, so the residents of Louth were protected from flooding. But we know that other parts of our area sadly weren't protected, and anyone who's had their home, or their business, or their farm flooded will now be dealing with the terrible aftermaths of that."

She added that the flooding in Horncastle was devastating:

"The scheme itself Horncastle's flood prevention scheme is some £8 million worth of taxpayers money, invested in order to protect the town of Horncastle from flooding. And I think the Environment Agency has some very, very serious questions to answer as to why that scheme did not work as it should have done.

"In fairness to the Environment Agency, they've made a sort of interim report where they they accept and acknowledge that it didn't work as it should have done, and I'm very much holding them to their promise that there'll be a full investigation.

"That will, you know, reveal what happened, and what went wrong. But in terms of the response to this, you know, we've got to make sure that this scheme works going forward. We've got to make sure, of course, that any bad weather that may may be on its way, we doesn't suffer further from administrative or technical problems."

More than 60 representatives from local organisations are due to attend in hopes to share information about support available in the local community.

This will be the second time the Community Summit is held, after last year's success.
