Pay rises for South Holland bin lorry drivers as council tries to tackle shortage

One of Lincolnshire's councils had decided to boost pay and provide better training to its bin lorry drivers.
Its amid a national shortage of people qualified for the role of driving large vehicles like bin lorries
South Holland District Council has approved the measures after some areas of the district faced delays in the bins being collected earlier this year.
The changes also provide more opportunities for progression; making working on the bins a more attractive career choice.
Councillors are hoping the measures provide greater job security and attract people looking for long term work.
Councillor Roger Gambba-Jones, from South Holland District Council, said:
"I am pleased that my fellow councillors have supported these proposals to help recognise the importance of our waste collection service and environmental services team in South Holland."
