Over 600 people call for new road safety measures after school bus crash near Lincoln
The double decker came off the road on Meadow Lane in North Hykeham earlier this month
Over 600 people have signed a petition demanding action to make a road near Lincoln safer after a school bus left the road trapping 60 children on board.
Earlier this month, a double decker crashed on Meadow Lane in North Hykeham.
There are now calls for a reduced speed limit and cameras.
Sally Ann lives nearby, she said a man also died on the road in July and fears other lives may be lost.
"We see a lot of accidents on that stretch of road and every time there's an accident it's just so worrying.
"Some people just go so fast along there, there's a lot of tailgating, overtaking and it's such a small stretch of road.
"When we heard about the accident involving 60 school children we were extremely worried and saddened.
"I just thought it was time to try and make a change and get something done to make the road safer."
She told us she's worried about children on their way to and from school.
"I've seen children as young as 8 trying to cross the road on the corner with cars coming around at very high speeds.
"They're young children, trying to push big bikes across and many times I've said to the children, 'just wait there, I'll cross you over'."
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said they're aware of the petition.
"We have received a formal request from the local councillor, Thomas Dyer, to carry out an assessment of Meadow Lane.
“As a result, our local highways team will be assessing the area to see if it meets our criteria for implementing any of the changes residents have requested, including a potential extension of the 30mph limit eastward from Sharp Walk.”
