New Spalding project will look to address children's mental health issues
It provide support for coping with the likes of exam stress and bullying
A new project in Spalding is looking to address a rise in demand for mental health support amongst children to help them cope with the likes of exam stress or bullying.
It's part of efforts across the county to expand their well being services.
There'll also be new teams launching in Grantham and Sleaford from January next year.
We spoke to Lynne Tyblewski one of the Team Coordinators.
Mental health has not had the same support as physical health
She says: "At the end of the day childhood should be the happiest time in a person's life and we all know education should allow children to reach their full potential but the reality is really different."
"I truly believe there's so much we can tackle going forward."
"We know people with mental health problems have not had the same level of support as those with physical illnesses in the past but I think with our mental health support teams it's helped to generate that enthusiasm in taking forward that support."
We also spoke to Vicki Hardy who works for the mental heath teams across Sleaford and Grantham, as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist Supervisor.
We do work in schools around low mood and anxiety
She said: "The whole idea of our teams is we get to work with these young people when they're struggling with maybe a mild to moderate mental health condition and giving them coping tools and strategies they can use throughout their lives."
"Day to day our roles can vary greatly so we might be delivering workshops to classes one day , we may be doing assemblies to try and do that preventative work."
"We may deliver groups in schools around low mood and anxiety and strategies to manage that."
