Grimsby Town fans are today wondering "Wow did that just happen?".

They're celebrating after securing a 2-1 victory at Premier League Southampton.

Cool as you like Gavan Holohan stepped up to slide home both penalties that took them through to the quarter finals.

Yes the quarter finals - so they're just 2 wins away from the final at Wembley.

Atmosphere in the away stands was electric

And next up it's another trip to the south coast as the Mariners this time take on Brighton who are currently 8th in the premier league.

The atmosphere in the away stands last night was electric as around 4 thousand 3 hundred Grimsby fans roared on their team to victory along with almost as many Harry Haddock mascots.

We spoke to some of them after the final whistle.

Wembley here we come

That's fans not Harry Haddock mascots - they don't tend to say much.

Fans told us "An amazing game - Wembley here we come, well worth the trip, "

"The quarter finals - amazing, we've not stopped singing, what a following, great game what more can you want."

"Absolutely buzzing, nothing better, very very happy with that, great for us to get it, unbelievable absolutely unbelievable."

Mariners manager Paul Hurst was still trying to come to terms with the win.

We'll go down in history

He said: "It was almost, looking round at the faces a sense of shock, probably very tired as well."

"There was a few songs and a bit of music, it's a memory for them. the owners and the supporters."

"We'll go down in history because of the way we got to the quarter finals."

"Grimsby Town in the quarter finals of the FA cup is something I never thought I'd hear."

"I'm not quite sure I've got used to it yet, but it is nice."

Probably the best

"So pleased for them because there's been some hard times, there's been some good times as well."

"They have to make the most of tonight".

"As a one off in terms of opposition it's probably the best, although we were promoted last season in an incredible run of games which will probably never be topped but yes it's up there."

Grimsby Town's board have released a statement following the victory.

They now hold a new record

It says they're absolutely delighted.

They say it was a performance "full of grit, determination and moments of quality which have left memories that will last a lifetime."

"We also became the first club in FA Cup history to beat five teams from higher divisions and reach the last eight."

"We are incredibly proud that that record now belongs to the Mariners."

They've thanked the coaching staff and players for their efforts and all the fans who travelled to the match.

They said "Last night the whole footballing world got to see how amazing our fans are."
