As the festive period draws to a close and people look to the new year - a Gainsborough mental health and suicide prevention charity is hoping to make sure no one suffers in silence,

The Bearded Fisherman helps people across Lincolnshire and Newark, offering support for mental health and mental wellbeing.

Michael Wayland is one of the local founders and tells us some of the things people come to them for:

"There's been a lot of people coming in because they're worried about the cost of living and the cost of things... but we also get lots of people come in to talk about past trauma, things that's happened to them in the past that they're still worried about, or can't get out of their head. You'd be surprised just what people will come to you to talk about."

He added that it's important to reach out for help when you need it:

"If someone comes in that doesn't know us, they can tell us more knowing that they'd not going to make their loved ones worry like 'oh well I feel guilty you feel this way' or 'I feel guilty because I've made you feel this way' it just gives that person more scope and more confidence to discuss it.

The team started "around a fishing lake" as Michael and Rick, the other bearded fisherman used to fish together and talk about their problems.

After a fellow friend died by suicide they felt they wanted to make a difference and help others.
