Major incident declared with fears of flooding in Newark
River Trent is thought to be at its highest point for years
A sports centre in Newark has opened to provide support to anyone in the area affected by flooding with the River Trent said to close to bursting its banks in several places.
Nottinghamshire County Council has declared a major incident with fears there could be a significant impact.
It's said the Trent is at its highest level for more than 20 years.
Flood warnings remain in place along much of the River Trent.
Newark itself has a warning currently in force meaning a real likelihood of flooding.
Other nearby places with a warning include Girton, High Marnham, Farndon, Collingham, Carlton on Trent, North Muskham and Holme.

If any resident’s home is flooded or at risk of flooding and they need a safe space overnight, a rest centre is now open at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, Lord Hawke Way, Newark NG24 4FH.
Anyone affected should make their way there and they will be met by Newark and Sherwood District Council officers who will look after you and provide you with the essentials.
