Lincoln man jailed for 21 years for sex offences
Officers have praised the victim's bravery for reporting Otter's crimes
A man from Lincoln has been jailed for 21 years for sex offences.
52 year old Shaun Otter of Shakespeare Street had previously been found guilty of 11 charges including rape at Lincoln Crown Court.
He'll also have to keep to sex offender notification requirements for life which replaces the previous sex offender register.
Officers have praised the victim's bravery for reporting Otter's crimes.
Detective Inspector Lee Nixon, of Lincolnshire Police Protecting Vulnerable Persons Unit said:
“I would like to pay tribute to the victim and her bravery in coming to us. We know it’s an incredibly daunting thing to do and therefore we owe it to every victim to treat them with sensitivity and respect, and to do everything we can to make sure that perpetrators, like Otter, are brought before the court to face justice.
“This sentence is not only a punishment for Otter, but a message to perpetrators of the consequences of their actions. We hope it gives confidence to survivours that we will relentlessly pursue anyone responsible for such abhorrent acts, regardless of if it happened recently or decades ago.
If you have been a victim of sexual assault, please know that you will be taken seriously if you come forward. Whether or not you decide to come to us, there is support available, and we would like to take the opportunity to highlight that.”
