Latest on campaign to stop asylum seekers being housed at RAF Scampton
Gainsborough MP raised the issue with the Prime Minister
Momentum appears to be growing in the campaign to stop the former RAF Scampton site from being used to house asylum seekers.
Yesterday it was revealed Gainsborough MP Sir Edward Leigh had spoken to the Prime MInister about the issue.
He urged him to delay any decision until an impact assessment had been completed but he says Rishi Sunak couldn't commit to that.
This is just a small piece of the puzzle
Meanwhile an application for listed status of the Dambusters' Officers Mess there will be looked at as a "priority" by Historic England after it was lodged by West Lindsey District council.
The former air base has been highlighted as one of the areas being looked into whilst the council tries to make plans for a 300 million pound investment deal reality.
We spoke to the Director of Planning, Regeneration & Communities at West Lindsey District Council, Sally Grindrod-Smith about the application.
She told us: "This is just a small piece of the puzzle. another step we're able to take to protect part of the site but should the home office proposals go ahead it will be very difficult for us to deliver the investment and regeneration we have lined up for this site."
This is being treated as a priority
"Historic England have come back to us and acknowledged the application."
"It's quite a big package of work you send in with photographs and historic records."
"They're working with our conservation officer to ascertain everything they need to determine a decision about the listing."
"We don't know how long it will take but understand they're looking at this as a priority."
A government spokesperson says they are committed to engaging with local authorities and key stakeholders in identifying a range of accommodation options.
