High Court rules council can take legal action over RAF Scampton asylum seeker decision
The Government wants to house almost 2000 asylum seekers at the former base
The high court has ruled that West Lindsey District council can take legal action against plans to house asylum seekers at the former RAF Scampton site.
The Government plans to put around 2 thousand refugees there.
It means the case will now proceed to a full judicial review.
Over the past few days, the local authority has attended a permission hearing at London’s Royal Courts of Justice in an attempt to prevent up to 2,000 asylum seekers from being housed at the former home of the Dambusters.
The council’s plea was granted by Mrs Justice Thornton DBE on Friday, who ruled the case would proceed to a full review.
Her decision was based on multiple grounds, notably, the government’s failure to consider crucial factors including a £300 million enterprise, tourism, and heritage project proposed by Scampton Holdings.
