Grantham Hospital's A & E department is to reopen during the day
the change will take place from tomorrow
Grantham Hospital's A and E department is to reopen during the day. It had been replaced by an urgent treatment centre at the start of the pandemic on temporary basis .
That was done so the site could provide treatment in an environment which minimised the risk of infection from coronavirus.
Now A & E provision will return but it won't be 24 hours.
An enhanced walk in service will be available in the evening similar to the urgent treatment arrangement and bookable appointments are on offer overnight.
When will the changes happen?
From Wednesday 30 June 2021 the 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre will revert back to an 8am-6.30pm A&E service. The inpatient medical service will also restart on this date.
The GP out of hours service will return to the site with an enhanced walk-in service from 6pm-10pm and bookable appointments overnight until 8am which can be accessed through NHS111.
The walk-in element will offer the same services as the UTC, including:
sprains and strains
suspected broken limbs
bites and stings
eye problems
feverish illness in adults and children
minor scalds and burns
emergency contraception.
Temporary changes were introduced at the hospital last June, in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
