There are fears for the future of Scunthorpe United this morning.
It's understood the Iron have been served with a winding up petition.
The petition comes after reports of an alleged unpaid tax bill.
At the beginning of last month the Iron announced the start of a takeover deal.
Those talks seemed to be at an advanced stage in early December.
Update about potential buyers
We've spoken to the firm tasked with dealing with potential buyers which has told us an initial offer was put forward and rejected.
They also say further offers have been promised although the winding up petition makes the situation more urgent.
Scunthorpe were in the championship just over a decade ago but a series of relegations resulted in them dropping out of the football league last season and they currently sit bottom of the national league.
