Date set for work to begin on North Hykeham bypass in Lincoln after funding was agreed
It will complete a ring road round around the city
Funding for the North Hykeham bypass in Lincoln has been approved.
It's now thought work can begin around late 2025.
It'll mark the final step in forming a ring road around the city with dual carriageways linking the A46 to the recently constructed Eastern bypass.
Richard Davies is County Councillor for Highways.
He says "it's very much designed to take traffic out of the North Hykeham area, probably one of the most congested areas of the county."
"Lots of traffic almost ten to 12 hours a day".
"What this road will also do will be to provide better connectivity to the A46 as well".
"So people coming up to Lincoln who want to get around the city will have another way of getting round."
"Lincoln is a bottleneck at the moment despite the Eastern bypass".
"I think by building the North Hykeham relief road we'll be in a position to open up the county much better".
"It'll improve north - south links for example".
"Also what it'll do is the surrounding villages, South Hykeham, Thorpe on the Hill for example that have all been blighted by traffic, hopefully this will do something to reduce a lot of the HGV traffic and the problems caused by accidents".
"Everyone knows that if there's an accident on the Western bypass the City's gridlocked for hours".
