Cleethorpes MP backs PM following confidence vote
Boris Johnson won yesterday's poll of Conservative MPs
Cleethorpes' MP Martin Vickers is backing Boris Johnson following yesterday's confidence vote.
The Prime Minister got 59 percent of the vote, which means he's now immune from a Conservative leadership challenge for a year.
211 Tory MPs voted in favour of his leadership, while 148 voted against him.
Mr Johnson described it as a "decisive" win, his critics say the party is now divided.
We asked Cleethorpes' Conservative MP Martin Vickers for his views.
He told us: "It would be far better not to have had this vote and to allow the Government to continue delivering on their manifesto commitments."
"Keeping in mind all the challenges we have around the cost of living, Ukraine, levelling up, rebuilding the NHS after the pandemic and so on."
"I in no way condone what happened in Downing Street, the various parties were irresponsible and reckless but the Prime Minister has shaken up his management team."
"He faces lots of challenges but he's got to build the country's confidence in him."
"It's difficult but I think the way to do that is to deliver on the policies that'll improve people's lives."
"People can respect people who hold different views for perfectly good and legitimate reasons, that is the case in some instances."
"Some instances of course it's just ill feeling between 2 individuals and that happens in every walk of life, every factory, office, shop around the country."
