Cleethorpes Buck Beck Beach Bench destroyed by fire
We're being urged to stay away from the area
We're being urged to stay away from the remains of Buck Beck Beach Bench in Cleethorpes which are still smouldering after it was destroyed in a blaze.
Resort managers have cordoned off the area and say any fire could spread quickly to the nearby dunes.
Members of the local community are vowing to eventually rebuild the bench after last nights' fire.
Humberside Fire and rescue were called out last night to the fire.
North East Lincolnshire Council are asking if anyone knows who started the fire or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, to report it to Humberside Police on 101 and quote the reference ‘Operation Seabird’.
They say:
"Cleethorpes saltmarsh is an internationally important habitat protected by law. Fires can cause irreparable damage to the sensitive environment. "
