Our annual campaign to make sure no child goes without a gift under the tree at Christmas has received almost a quarter of a million applications on behalf of disadvantaged children.

Cash for Kids, which runs Mission Christmas every year, says the numbers have never been this high so early in the campaign.

Launched on November 14th, the charity has already received more than 237,000 requests for gifts, and that's before we've even entered December. In Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, almost 9000 applications have been made.

Huge demand for Mission Christmas

Mission Christmas supplies gifts to children and young people aged 0-18, and the cost of living crisis means our services are in demand like never before.

Families hit by rising fuel bills, inflation at the shops, or those struggling with home insecurity are just some of the people we need to help.

Others are fleeing domestic violence, or have lost their homes because of debt.

Anna Whiley has been fundraising for gifts on behalf of an organisation that provides help and support to those seeking accommodation.

She told us: "We house and support people that are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We’ve got some babies and it’s their first Christmas and we’ve got families and they’re struggling with everything at the minute.

“People are really seeing the pinch, we’re getting more people coming to us that are maybe sofa surfing, or street homeless after breakups.”

She added: "We’ve got some babies that it’s their first Christmas, and that’s such a special time for - our single mums - it’s a special time for them, so them getting a present would be absolutely amazing.”
